RPD Critic Reviews
RPD Description
The Ruchnoy Pulemyot Degtyaryova, known to most simply as the RPD, was developed from 1943 to 1944 alongside the 7.62x39mm M43 cartridge in the Soviet Union by Vasily Degtyaryov. While it was ready for mass production in 1944, it wasn't actually produced until after its adoption in 1948. This kept it from seeing frontline service in WWII. The RPD maintained frontline deployment with the Soviets until 1960 when it was replaced with the beefed-up AKM pattern RPK. The now obsolescent RPDs would get sold off to middle-eastern, South Asian and African nations who had ties with the USSR.Technical Data
